Author: / Category: Home And Family

The town Hexham is in the North East of England and can be found from the road A69 or by the central railway station. It is an attractive old town aside the River Tyne with a market. There are old houses around the market square, near the abbey, including the Moot Hall and the fourteenth century Manor Office, which used to be the town gaol.
Horse racing can be found nearby at Hexham racetrack. It is good as a centre for Hadrians Wall modern day explorers.
It was originally the country town of the former county of Hexhamshire. The name of Hexham came from Anglo Saxon. Like many towns in its area suffered from the border wars with the Scots. For example an attack from William Wallace who burnt down the town in 1297. In 1312 Robert the Bruce, King of Scotland, demanded and received two thousand pounds from the town and monastery in order for them to be spared a similar fate. In 1715 the rebellion was unsuccessful and the Earl was captured and beheaded after the battle of Preston.
The Abbey was first built six hundred and forty eight by St Wilfrid. A crypt remains, and incorporates many stones taken from nearby Roman ruins. The current Hexham Abbey dates largely from the eleventh century onward, but was significantly rebuilt in the nineteenth century.
The newly refurbished Old Gaol 1330AD, allows access to everyone. You can the glass lift down to the dungeon, explore the history of the prison. Meet the gaoler and Sir Robert Carey, warden.
Hexham racecourse is situated in breathtaking country just outside of Hexham. It has meetings throughout the year and has excellent facilities for a family day out. It also has a caravan and camping site for visitors wishing to stay longer. An ideal picnic area and nearby for shopping in Hadrians Wall can be found just north on the B6318 off the A6079.
Picturesque country course, lovely day out for all the family and easily accessible from Newcastle, Cumbria and the Scottish Borders.
The local newspaper serving Hexham and Tynedale since 1864 is called the Hexham Courant. It was first launched by J. Catherall and at that time espoused the Liberal cause. In 1977, CN Group had taken over the business and has since continued to grow. Hexham has a town website called Hexham Net managed by the Hexham Courant. It was first launched in October 2003 and continues to serve both the local community as well as to visiting tourists to the Tynedale area.

Tecknokolla and the Town@House Street project

Author: / Category: Home And Family

Milan is the first city in the world to have launched a new sort of tourist accommodation: it’s called Town@House Street. Created by Alessandro Rosso and architect Simone Micheli, who dealt with the interior design, the project turned disused shopping areas to account by converting them into hotel suites. The first four are situated in via Goldoni 33 and were inaugurated during Milan’s Furniture Exhibition.Important internationally-renowned enterprises such as Fiandre, Iris Ceramica and Technokolla took part in this project, which revolutionized the traditional hotel concept. The Sassuolo enterprise supplied the laying products while the first two companies provided custom-made cladding materials. Thanks to their hygienic qualities and the number of different shades available, Skycolors grouting products were used to highlight the “Extra White” effect of the panels.Technokolla’s Skycolors and Skycolors Shine epoxy grouting products become a precious design feature because they enhance both floors and walls with their lively, bright colors, which come in the Gold, Silver, Seashell, Stardust, Moonlight, Blackstar and Marslight shades.Skycolors and Skycolors Shine add “color” of the cleanest type as they are stain-proof, do not absorb liquids and do not turn yellowish thanks to the special formula with which they are made.Technokolla also supplied floor and tile adhesives produced with revolutionary technology that considerably reduces the dust emissions, thus ensuring that work environments are more healthful and comfortable. The HD product line also includes the Rasolastik ADV HD waterproofer and R-evolution HD, the first and only hardener that reduces dust emissions. The Active panels created by Fiandre and Iris Ceramica pave the way to a new generation of materials focused on active sustainability, as they are environmentally sound, non-polluting and antibacterial. When it comes to innovation and care for the environment, Technokolla now proposes Geo, a line of bioecological products made with non-toxic, regenerative materials that are readily available and that cut down on the energy costs sustained for their manufacture. The range includes binders, adhesives, grouting products and dehumidifying plasters, all free from solvents and formaldehyde.Visit the web site http://www.technokolla.com for more details about the company and its range, which includes bonding products for floors, tile grouting and tile adhesives.Contacts: Layoutweb, Layout Advertising GroupPublic Relations DepartmentSimona Bonatie-mail: bonati@layoutweb.ithttp://www.layoutweb.it

Most Cost Effective Housing Areas In Cornwall

Author: / Category: Home And Family

Cornwall is the furthest south and the furthest west of the English counties and is bordered to the north and west by the Atlantic Ocean and to the east by Devon. The topography of Cornwall varies from the dramatic, rugged cliffs of the north, sculpted by the constant pounding of the sea, to the sheltered coves and bays of the south, together with moorland and lowland stretches. Property in Cornwall is nearly as diversified as the landscape itself, with town houses, country houses, including farmhouses and barn conversions, and smaller properties available for sale throughout the county.

Starting on the north Cornish coast, Bude has been welcoming visitors since Victorian times. The clean, sandy beaches in the area offer safe bathing and some of the best surfing in the country. Befitting a family-focused seaside resort, property in the Bude area is mainly in the form of detached houses, which make up nearly 50% of the housing stock. The price of the average detached house works out at just over £200,000, but semi-detached and terraced houses are available for around £140,000 on average. For single people and couples, flats and maisonettes are in short supply compared with some of the other types of property in the area, but where they are available prices work out at a little over £100,000 on average.

Moving south along the Atlantic north coast, the village of Boscastle grew up as a busy port around a tiny natural harbour. The village attracted nationwide attention in 2004 when a flash flood, exacerbated by its position in the Valency valley, caused widespread devastation. The small community in Boscastle has since recovered, with flood defence work and regeneration projects being completed in the autumn of 2008, at a cost of £10 million. Property in Boscastle does not come onto the market all that often compared with some other areas of Cornwall. When it does, however, two, three and four bedroom houses can be bought for an average of £225,000, £250,000 and £375,000 respectively.

Further south still, the formerly important fishing port of Padstow has undergone resurgence in recent years, largely due to the popularity of TV celebrity chef Rick Stein. Rick Stein has actually run his world famous “The Seafood Restaurant” in Padstow since the Seventies, but since his rise to fame has opened three more. Indeed, freshly caught crab, lobster and other seafood are specialities of the area. The appearance of a cluster of good quality restaurants in a small town or village often suggests a healthy housing market. Indeed, Padstow property prices have risen faster than elsewhere in the county, but you can find one bedroom flats at less than £175,000 or two or three bedroom houses for a little over £200,000 and £350,000 respectively, on average.

The county town of Cornwall, Truro, is another popular location for property buyers. Truro is situated close to both coasts and offers a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and a distinctive character. Terraced housing is the most plentiful in Truro and makes up nearly 30% of the total housing stock. Two, three and four bedroom houses are available in the price range between just under £200,000 and just over £300,000 on average.

Finding a Great Deal on a Paphos House

Author: / Category: Home And Family

Paphos is a not just a great Cyprus holiday resort that remains open all year round its a thriving town too. So if you are looking for property in Cyprus a Paphos house could make a solid investment indeed. Apart from all the new developments that are still springing up all over the area there are still plenty of older traditional properties becoming available. There are some real nice suburbs on the fringes of the town where you could find a traditional Paphos house or villa for sale. The pretty villages are even seeing some development as well due to the developers looking for plots further in land or away from the more expensive resort centers Despite prices of Cyprus property continuing to rise there are still some real estate bargains to be had if you know just where to look for them.

If you prefer older property there is little point in using the larger Cyprus real estate agents because they are often more interested in selling new or off plan builds. This is mainly down to the larger commissions they earn from those type of sales so they tend to push them rather than resale properties. Another issue for the Paphos house buyer to take into account is title deeds. Because houses less than around ten years old will have not yet recieved separate deeds and the banks won’t lend against them. Obviously buyers raising capital against assets at home are not going to have the same problem. The best places to start your search for that Paphos house is most likely with the smaller local estate agents. This will involve a little spade work but the benefits should be well worth the effort.

There have even been several instances where Cyprus property has not even been advertised with an agent but sold literally by word of mouth. This is more often the case in some of the smaller villages so a little local knowledge could take you a long way. Again its all a matter of driving around and doing a little research before you even think about buying that Paphos house. With so much property on offer the choice can be almost bewildering so having a wish list at the outset makes good sense. The other well known secret of property buying is not to rush in and don’t let yourself be pressured. If you do decide to opt for a new build Paphos house watch out for some of the usual hard sell techniques that may be employed. Don’t fall for the “this is the last one” or “the prices are going up tomorrow” because there will always be another Paphos house coming onto the market.

Should you be prepared to drive a bargain there is always room for a deal. Property developers make lots of money but they need to sell houses. You never can tell, that Paphos house you have set your heart on could belong to a motivated seller. Motivated sellers are people who need to sell quickly for some reason or another. It may be that they wish to return to the U.K or even some kind of financial pressure that is compelling them to sell. The key to taking advantage of motivated sales is the ability to finance the deal quickly so having your finances in place is crucial to your success. No one is saying that people needing to sell should in anyway be taken advantage of. Rather that as a buyer you would be in a position to offer a solution to someone else’s difficulties.

In a way all sellers are motivated to move property along for some reason or another or they wouldn’t be on the market. Even the big Cyprus property developers will want to sell that Paphos house for the best price they can get. Ultimately however everything is there to be sold so there is always some room to maneuver. Many developers are often willing to throw in some extras such as air con and white goods in the kitchen. You can always ask because they can only say no and there are plenty of properties out there to choose from. Always be prepared to walk away from a property if you can’t reach a price you are agreed upon (within reason) because there really is always another one just around the corner. If you don’t let your heart rule your head you stand a good chance of finding your perfect Paphos house.

Moving From the Big City to a Small Town – Top 5 Things to Consider Before you Get Away From it All

Author: / Category: Home And Family

Having recently moved from Los Angeles to Durango, Colorado- a mid-sized rural town of 15,000 people with the nearest “large town” being an hour away and the nearest city being 3.5 hours away- I have definitely run into a few bumps. Being prepared for the changes can make all the difference. Here are five major areas of concern you should research prior to making the big move.

Economy: Job opportunities in rural areas can be quite limited. And what jobs are available may be low paying. Get a copy of the classifieds section of the town you’re planning to move to. Are there lots of jobs available? What industries are hiring? What is the pay? These are all questions you need to consider. Also, the cost of living in small towns- especially when it comes to shopping- may be more than you’re used to, simply due to the shipping costs involved in getting products to out of the way areas. And definitely consider the real estate market as well. If you have to move from your small town, how long can you expect your house to be on the market? Many areas have upwards of a one year average for a home to sell.

Schools: If you have children, your primary concern when considering moving to a rural area should be education. Many rural school districts- such as Durango- have excellent schools, but many don’t. It is important to throughly research the performance of the schools before deciding to make your move. Because once you’re there, you are generally limited to the public school system, as private options are rarely available.

Travel: Most rural areas will have a small airport that services the region. But if you are a frequent traveler, this can present a few different problems. For someone coming from a larger city, you’re probably used to being able to get direct flights to almost anywhere. Not so from rural airports. You will generally have to make at least one connection to get to anywhere. And you will pay a higher price for this inconvienince. For example, a roundtrip ticket from my home in Durango, Colorado to Houston, Texas averages upwards of $600- with a connection. We generally opt to drive 3.5 hours to Albuquerque so we can get a direct flight for $250. Also, fewer airlines service small airports, which means if you have a ton of frequent flyer miles saved up on your favorite airline, you may find that they are unusable.

Shopping: Coming from a large city, you are used to having most anything you want or need at your fingertips. If that is important to you, you definitely want to research the shopping options in the rural area you are planning to move to. Be prepared to have to drive quite a distance to get to a mall or any of the “big box” retail chains. Shopping online is another option for those items that can’t be found in your area. And be aware that fresh produce may be an issue. Produce normally has to be trucked in to rural areas, and can be aged and damaged by the time it reaches the local grocery store. I’ve found that most of the produce in Durango is either over ripe or under ripe, and typically is bruised. Farmer’s markets and local merchants that carry regionally grown produce are excellent alternatives and are highly recommended.

Arts & Entertainment: Durango is a college town and a tourist town, so I am fortunate enough to have a decent variety of local entertainment to choose from. We have two small movie theaters, a college with a concert hall that offers cultural arts, a few museums with changing exhibits, and many venues that offer live music from area musicians. If entertainment is important to you, make sure you do a little research and see what is offered in the area you’re planning to move to. Depending on the size of the town, there may not even be a movie theater!

Leaving behind the big city for a rural area definitely has its advantages, but you do need to be aware of some of the potential pit falls and prepare yourself and your family. Hopefully this article has given you something to think about before you start packing!

Visiting the Outskirts of Cape Town

Author: / Category: Home And Family

While Cape Town certainly has plenty of activities and sights to offer on its own, there are also numerous sights to see around Cape Town as well. Located just a short distance from Cape Town is the town of Greyton. A drive from Cape Town to Greyton will take you approximately ninety minutes when the weather is good and traffic is minimal.
Greyton Lodge is well known in the area for offering warm and charming accommodations. Whether you want to enjoy the in-house Jazz pianist or simply curl up by a warm fire on cool evenings, there are plenty of opportunities to relax at this lodge. Two dining rooms offer ample space for dining and complete an environment that is nothing short of homey and charming.
If you happen to time your trip so that it coincides with a weekend, you will most certainly want to make a stop by the market that takes place on the village green on Saturday mornings. Whether you just want to wander around and browse or a pick up a jar of lemon curd, this is certainly an enjoyable way to spend a morning.
There are also plenty of fine restaurants and cafes located in the local area where you can enjoy a leisurely lunch. From trendy and artsy to cozy and welcoming, there are plenty of different options here to suit your tastes.
Hermanus is another lovely town situated not far from Cape Town. On a good day’s drive, Hermanus is about an hour’s drive from Greyton and it is certainly a gorgeous drive.
Among the sights that you will want to enjoy once you arrive in Hermanus is the seafront. Even on days when the weather is not at its best, a walk along the seafront is well worth it. The old harbor here is quite interesting and offers views that are spectacular.
Dining in Hermanus is also superb as there are numerous restaurants which serve fine meals. If you’re looking for a way to work off all of those calories, you can head over to the Hermanus Golf course for a day on the green practicing your swing.
Of course, there is no better way to top off a trip to Hermanus than by paragliding. The local area is known for its paragliding opportunities and with the spectacular views that surround this beautiful region, it is little wonder. Sir Lowry’s Pass is one of the better places for paragliding, offering expansive views that look out toward Cape Town over Somerset West. If you have never gone paragliding before, rest assured that you will receive ample instruction that should help you to set aside any case of nerves you might experience. The views that offered as you sail towards the ground and then experience a soft landing are definitely worth the experience.
If you’re looking for something a bit different to do than traveling the wine routes during a visit to Cape Town, a visit to Hermanus and Greyton are definitely in order.

World-class is the best word to describe Cape Town Waterfront. The busy Victoria and Alfred harbors add to the hectic but fun pace in Cape Town. Situated Right between Robben Island and Table Mountain, the Waterfront pulsates with shoppers, tourists, holidaymakers, students, and business people getting into the groove of Cape Town’s beat.Transformation The Waterfront also known as the V&A Waterfront has always been the scene of harbor construction and land development since the 1850s. It is still undergoing development on land with the addition of buildings around the two basins—Victoria and Alfred.

The marvelous transformation made the place the no.1 tourist destination in this spot of the world, a perfect gateway to safari adventures, rock climbing, and other activities that make anybody’s holiday here spectacular and unforgettable.
